Mrs. & Me, first opened in 1948, is one of those ice cream shops that leaves you with a mix of thoughts, mostly good, but definitely a few things that stand out in weird ways. First off, the size of the scoops is no joke. I ordered a small scoop thinking it’d be just a little treat, but it was massive—like, way more than I could handle. Honestly, I couldn’t even finish it. It was more like a full meal than a quick dessert, which might be a bonus if you’ve got a big sweet tooth or just love getting a lot for your money. But if you’re like me and just wanted something small to cool off with, it’s kind of overwhelming.

Now, about the actual ice cream. I tried the mint chocolate flavor. I was expecting a rich mint with a bit of chocolate, but it was pretty underwhelming. The mint was great, but I couldn’t really taste the chocolate chips. However, I would definitely order it again. Helping make the experience enjoyable, the service was great. I was one of the only customers there at the time, so they gave us our ice cream immediately. That kind of personal vibe is always a plus, especially in a smaller, local shop.

Kahlue Fudge Brownie

One of the more interesting parts of the visit was checking out the unique flavors they had on offer. Some were out there. The two that really stood out were Kahlua Fudge Brownie and Rum Raisin. Both were a little weird, but kind of fun if you’re into trying new things. The Kahlua Fudge Brownie was probably the strangest—it had that coffee flavor mixed with chocolate chunks, and it was super rich. Not something I’d want a full scoop of, but it was cool to taste. Rum Raisin was another oddball. Although I didn’t try it, I could sense that it’s one of those old-school flavors that not a lot of people go for anymore.

Some other options on the menu we didn’t get to try this time were the Mrs & Me Split, made with three servings of hard or soft serve, three sundae toppings, bananas, whipped cream, and cherries. I definitely want to try the Nor’eastah—soft serve blended with the topping of my choice. I think I’ll go with mixing in some Oreos when we come back.

All in all, Mrs. & Me is a fun little spot that’s doing its own thing. The portions are huge, the service is fast, and the flavors go way beyond the basics—some hits, some misses, but never boring. If you’re into trying new and quirky flavors or just want a giant scoop of something sweet, it’s worth checking out.
