If you’re looking for a Broadway-caliber night out on the Maine coast this summer, the Ogunquit Playhouse is ready to transport audiences from the beaches of Southern Maine to the glamorous streets of 1940s Hollywood with its upcoming production of City of Angels.
Running July 23 through August 22, 2026, this Tony Award-winning musical combines film noir, comedy, mystery, and unforgettable jazz music into one of Broadway’s most inventive shows.

A Story Told in Two Worlds
City of Angels follows New York crime novelist Stine, who heads to Hollywood to adapt his detective novels into a motion picture. As studio executives pressure him to change his story, audiences are taken on a clever journey between two parallel worlds.
One world unfolds in vibrant Technicolor as Stine navigates the politics, temptations, and compromises of Hollywood. The other exists inside his imagination, where his hard-boiled detective Stone prowls through a black-and-white film noir mystery filled with femme fatales, shady characters, and dangerous twists.
The result is a fast-paced musical that blends comedy, suspense, romance, and dazzling jazz-inspired numbers, including favorites like “You Can Always Count on Me” and “I’m Nothing Without You.”
